Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
- Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
- Only a few logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
