Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
